Dies Unexpectedly While Working in Store

Freeman, S. D. — A heart attack suffered while working in her husband's seed store here on June 3 claimed the life of Mrs. Charles Preheim, 60, well-known resident of this community.

Funeral services were held June 5 at the Salem Mennonite Church near Freeman, of which she was an active member, and were largely attended.

A native of the Menno, S. D. community, Mrs. Preheim was the former Hilda Goehring. She was married to Mr. Preheim in 1923 and they have operated a seed business here for a number of years. She was active in the Freeman College Junior Auxiliary, the Freeman Community Hospital Auxiliary, and the Dorcas Society.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, nine grandchildren, and four sisters. A son, Charles, preceded her in death in 1959.

HILDA GOEHRING PREHEIM

Hilda Goehring Preheim, daughter of Karl and Adeline Wahl Goehring, was born in August 1901, at Menno, S. D. She was baptized and later confirmed at the Salem Reformed Church on April 23, 1916 by Pastor F. A. Ritterhaus.

She was united in marriage Nov. 18, 1923 to Charles Preheim, and to this union three children were born.

She was received into the fellowship of the Salem Mennonite Church, Freeman, S. D. on May 31, 1925, and remained a faithful member throughout her life.

Mrs. Preheim died suddenly from a heart attack on June 3, 1961 in the midst of life at her husband's store, where she was associated with him yearly in the spring work.

Those who preceded her in death include her son Charles Jr., who died Jan. 20, 1959; her father, her mother, who passed away a year ago, and two sisters.

Those who remain include her husband, Charles; her daughters, Delores (Mrs. Frank Weather was of Sioux Falls, S. D.), and Marjorie (Mrs. Al Pitts of Rapid City, S. D.); her daughter-in-law, Jean, the present Mrs. Lawrence Parry of Parker, S. D.; nine grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. William Trojan of Oshkosh, Wis., Mrs. Hubert Fergen of Sioux city, Iowa, Mrs. Wilbur Brown of Sioux Falls, S. D., and Mrs. Clifford Holm of Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Preheim was a life member of the Freeman Junior College Auxiliary, and was also active in the Freeman Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Dorcas Society, but her life centered in her home. Her family and friends will remember her loving devotion to homemaking, gardening and flowers.
