Newton Mother of Four Dies in Crash On Texas Highway
Mrs. Vernon Plett, 33, of Newton died at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo last Sunday of injuries received in a highway crash Friday, Dec. 26.
She was a passenger in a car driven by her husband when it collided with a tractor south of Tulia, Texas. The tractor driver, a farmer, also was killed. Mr. Plett, who is production superintendent for Guerdon Industries in Newton, was seriously injured but is now convalescing at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Plett of Turpin, Okla. At the time of the crash the couple were returning from a business trip to Lubbock.
Funeral services for Mrs. Plett, the former Donetta Voth, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Turpin Mennonite Church with Rev. Horace Brelsford of Garden City, Kan. and Rev. Myron Schrag of Newton officiating.
Mrs. Plett was a member of the Faith Mennonite Church here. Besides her husband she leaves four children, Timmy, 12, Tommy, 10, Tammi, 8, and Tony, 3; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Voth of Garden City, and a brother, Albert Voth Jr., also of Garden City.

• A largely attended memorial service was held at the Faith Mennonite Church last Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Donetta Plett, 33, a member of the church who was fatally injured in a highway accident near Tulia, Texas on Dec. 26. Officiating at the service were Rev. Myron Schrag, the pastor, and Ron Hunsicker, pastoral intern. Mrs. Plett’s husband, Vernon Plett, was seriously injured in the accident but was able to attend the service here as well as the funeral, held Dec. 31 at the Turpin, Okla. Mennonite Church. Also attending were the couple’s four young children. Mrs. Plett was the former Donetta Voth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Voth of Garden City.
