HENRY PLETT

Henry Plett, beloved husband and father, was born near Inman, Kansas on March 14, 1879. As a young man, upon his confession of faith in Christ, he was baptized on June 10, 1897, and received into the membership of the Bethel Mennonite Church near Inman.

On June 11, 1901, he was united in marriage to Justina Goertzen. For 56 years they shared life's hardships, discouragements, and its sorrows and joys.

Bro. Plett came from Inman to Beaver County, Okla. with his bride in 1903, taking a homestead 17 miles southeast of Beaver. Five years later they sold their homestead, buying land in the Turpin community, where they have made their home. In 1912 both became members of the Friedensfeld Mennonite Church. Here the Lord blessed in a material and also a spiritual way.

He was a faithful worker in the church, serving many years as Sunday school superintendent and also as a member of the Church Board. In recent years, in spite of increasingly poor hearing, he was regular in attendance, feeling that his place was in church.

He always had a great love for the out-of-doors and enjoyed relatively good health until about three years ago. On Dec. 11 he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered. On Sunday evening, Dec. 29, at 9 o'clock, he was called home to be with the Lord.

He reached the age of 78 years, nine months and 16 days.

He is survived by his sorrowing widow, Justina; four sons and their wives and two daughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Plett, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Plett, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Plett, and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Plett, all of the Turpin community, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pankratz of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Penner of Turpin.

Survivors also include ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, George Plett, of Buhler, Kansas; and a host of relatives and friends.

The circle of our immediate family has been broken for the first time by father's passing.

Funeral services were held Jan. 1 with Rev. Levi Koehn and Rev. John Lehnert officiating.
