ARLO H. PLENERT

Arlo H. Plenert was born to Cornelius J. and Bena Ratzlaff Plenert on April 13, 1909 to Marion County near Hillsboro, Kansas. He spent his childhood on the farm of his parents and received his elementary education at the Silberfield Grade School. As a young man farming became his occupation. About one year of his life was spent in CPS Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo. The last ten years he and his family lived in Hillsboro.

Upon his profession of faith in Jesus Christ, Arlo was baptized on June 19, 1927 by Rev. John Plenert and received into the membership of the Johannestal Mennonite Church near Hillsboro, where he remained a faithful member until his departure.

On Oct. 17, 1941 he was united in marriage to Selma Bartel at the Brudertal Mennonite Church with Rev. Arnold Funk officiating. To this union two children were born. Arlo was concerned about his family and that his children might be faithful to the Lord. The extent of their happy married life was 19 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Arlo enjoyed fairly good health until about two years ago when his doctor advised him not to do hard work due to a murmuring heart. On Sept. 7 he had a heart attack and entered the Salem Hospital. After being critically ill for several days, he seemed to be on his way to recovery. However, on Saturday afternoon, Sept.23, noticing a change, he called for the family to come to his bedside. In the evening of that day he passed on to his eternal reward. He reached the age of 52 years, five months and 10 days. Both of his parents preceded him in death.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are his loving wife, Selma; one daughter, Sharolyn Kay and one son, Dennis Wayne, both of the home; three brothers, three sisters, two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law and their families: Marie, Mrs. Jonathan J. Ratzlaff and family of Gray, Okla.; Arnold A. Plenert and family of Lehigh, Kansas, William Plenert and family of Hillsboro, Bena, Mrs. Herman J. Pankratz and family of Kanarado, Kansas, Anna Plenert of Newton, Kanas and Edwin Plenert and family of Hillsboro, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Sept. 27 at the Johannestal Mennonite church with Rev. Henry Goosen and Rev. Esko Loewen in charge.
