Obituary—James W. Pierce

James Walter Pierce, 76, retired railroad worker, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry L. Perkins, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was born January 12, 1870 at Electric, Alabama and as a young man moved to Newton. Following his retirement twenty years ago, he lived at Detroit, Michigan, from there moving to Bedford, Massachusetts, but for most of the last four years he has lived at the home of his daughter in Sioux Falls.

He was married to Martha Winger, October 23, 1893 at Newton. The survivors are the widow, Mrs. Pierce, one daughter, Mrs. Perkins; three sisters, Mrs. Bell Shores, Mrs. Jodi Welden, Montgomery, Alabama, and Mrs. Minnie Welden, Fairfax, Alabama; one brother, Thomas, Corpus Christi, Texas; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Episcopal church.

Funeral services were held at the Moody's funeral chapel, Thursday, May 16, at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. Logan Martin in charge. Mrs. E. S. Sanderson sang "Near to the Heart of God," and "Wonderful Morning," and was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Chas. Bachmann. Casket bearers were E. E. Barker, N. A. Boyer, L. W. Foushee, T. D. Hamilton, L. R. Hall, and L. M. Quilty. Interment was made in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery by Rex M. Moody of the Moody's funeral home.
