PETER CORNELIUS PETKER

Peter C. Petker, son of Margaret and the late Cornelius Petker, was born on April 12, 1930 in Coaldale, Alta. He accepted Christ in his youth, and Bible school was a period of growth and dedication. He was baptized upon confession of his faith and joined the local Mennonite Brethren church.

His life was characterized by his devotion to the Lord and his willingness to serve in the capacities of Sunday school teacher and superintendent, on church council, various committees, singing groups and in the pulpit ministry. His love of singing often led him to serve at outreach programs in the area. His constant and great concern was for the total well-being of his family and the spiritual growth of the Sunday school students.

On the Sunday before his death in a farm accident on September 16, Peter spoke to the congregation on "The Good Shepherd" from Luke 15: 1-7. At the funeral service September 16 at the Coaldale church, the male choir of which he had been a member sang. Brother-in-law Nick Reimer spoke in German and pastor Rudy Heidebrecht spoke on "The Final Victory" (I Cor. 15:51-58). The many floral tributes spoke of the esteem in which Peter was held in the community.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Helen; son Donald and his wife Louella; Karen, Gerald, Myrna and the twins, Roland and Rosella; his mother, (Mrs.) Margaret Petker; two sisters, Anne (Mrs. Nick) Reimer and Elizabeth; two brothers, Corny and Jake; and many other relatives and friends.
