The son of Aron and Annie Peter, Lawrence Aron Peters was born on April 30, 1919 in Hepburn, Saskatchewan, where he received his schooling. At the age of 16 he gave his heart and life to the Lord, receiving assurance of salvation that he kept for the rest of his life. In 1939 he joined the RCAF and attended McGill University. He served overseas in the capacity of a radar and radio technician, but suffered from tropical diseases which plagued him during his entire life. After the war he helped operate a store formerly owned by his father. In 1964 he left the store because of poor health and became the Postmaster in Hepburn, a position held until his passing. He married Gertrude Susan Penner in 1947. Two children were born to the couple. On January 15 Mr. Peters entered the hospital for the last time, and cancer was diagnosed. His last months until his passing on March 7 were spent in close communion with God, reading his Bible and praying. A funeral service conducted by pastor John E. Klassen and Rev. I. Block was held March 10 at the Hepburn Mennonite Brethren Church. He is mourned by his beloved wife, Trudy; his son, Murray and his wife, Ruth, of Saskatoon; his daughter, Laurie, of Hepburn; his mother, (Mrs.) Annie F. Peters; one brother, Ken; three sisters, (Mrs.) Clara Van Ness, (Mrs.) Evelyn Friesen, and (Mrs.) Ruth Wiebe; and many relatives and friends.
