SARA PETERS

Funeral services for the late Sara Peters of Coaldale, Alberta, were conducted in the Mennonite Brethren Church on October 28. Officiating at the services, Rev. D.J. Pankratz read John 11:23-26 for the invocation and spoke on "Job's fearless statement in the presence of death" as recorded in Job 16:19. He pointed out that Jesus Christ, our High Priest and the Author and Finisher of our faith today, will be our witness in the future. "For the redeemed, as in Job's case, the fact that our records are kept on high is a blessed thought," he said, "but it is a very sobering thought for those names are not recorded in the Book of Life."

"Having loved his own which were in the world he loved them unto the end" (John 13:1) was the text used by Rev. H. Siemens of Gem, Alberta. He enlarged upon the love of Christ that manifests itself in the concern that his children should be comforted, might be sanctified and will attain eternal life.

Sara Peters (nee Bergen) was born October 3, 1894. During her youth she was led to the Lord through the ministry of Rev. Frank Wiens, a missionary to China, who at that time conducted services in Orenburg while on furlough. That same year she was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church.

In 1913 she was married to John Peters and in 1926 they emigrated to Canada. Here they lived for a short period in Kronsgart, Manitoba and then moved to Magrath, Alberta. From 1931 until their retirement in 1952, the Peters were resident in Rosemary, Alberta. For the last fifteen years Mrs. Peters has enjoyed the fellowship of believers in Coaldale. It was here her husband died only a year and four months ago.

Death came rather unexpectedly. She attended church on Sunday, October 22 and went to be with the Lord when Rev. Pankratz prayed with her during his pastoral visit on Wednesday, October 25. "Jesus, thy blood and righteousness; my beauty are, my glorious dress" was her final testimony.

Left to mourn their mother are one son, nine daughters, one daughter-in-law and six sons-in-law, twenty-one grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
