JOHN J. PETERS

John J, Peters was born in Russia on July 19, 1913, the fourth son of Jacob and Elizabeth Peters. The family came to Canada in 1925, and settled on a farm near Niverville. Mr. Peter's father became ill and died in 1931, leaving a wife and nine children. At the age of 17, Mr. Peters was forced through circumstances to take on the responsibility of raising the family,

In 1941, he married Agnes Kehler. They continued farming near Niverville, where their work prospered amid much joy as well as hardship. Mr, Peters served for many years as church usher and treasurer. He was also active in his community, as school trustee, as a member of the Niverville Chamber of Commerce and as a director for the Manitoba Egg and Poultry Producers' Association. This year he was honoured by the Niverville Credit Union Society and the Manitoba Beet Growers' Associaton for long service.

Mr. Peters died suddenly at his home on May 23, at the age of 57.

Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Agnes; one son, Leonard; two daughters, Mrs. Dr. Robert Wiens (Lynda) and Miss Norma Peters; his mother, Mrs. Jacob Martens; five brothers, Jacob, Wally and Harry of Winnipeg, and Peter and Henry of Niverville; and two sisters, Mrs. P. A. Neufeld (Mary) of Niverville and Mrs. Dave Schellenberg (Martha) of Winnipeg.
