— Funeral services were conducted at the Zoar Church near Inman last Sunday afternoon for John E. Peters, 69, who died May 17 at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel where he had been a patient for more than 10 weeks. The services were in charge of Rev. Arnold Ensz, and Rev. D. C. Pauls gave the message. Mr. Peters is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marie Peters, who is being cared for at the Bethesda home in Goessel, and his children, Mr. and Mrs. John Esau and family, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fast and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Irl Toews and family.

JOHN E. PETERS

John E. Peters, son of Jacob F. and Anna Esau Peters, was born near Inman, Kan. on Jan. 4, 1892, and after a lingering illness in the Bethesda Hospital, Goessel, passed away on May 17.

He spent his school days in the Welcome School southwest of Inman. In his youth he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized on June 11, 1911 by Rev. John Esau and accepted as a member of the Zoar Mennonite Church, of which he remained a faithful member.

On July 16, 1916 he was united in marriage to Marie Thiessen, with whom he spent almost 45 years. To this union were born three daughters. The couple celebrated their silver anniversary in 1941.

He had mechanical ability and was very active in that work until he retired in 1953, and they made their home in Inman. He was concerned about the spiritual welfare of his family and set a good example for them.

He entered the Bethesda Hospital on March 3 and remained there for ten weeks and five days. He passed away quite suddenly on Wednesday, May 17, at 12:40 a.m., reaching the age of 69 years, four months and 13 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his bereaved widow; three daughters and their husbands, Esther and John Esau, Ruth and Sam Fast, Martha and Irl Toews; 12 grandchildren; five brothers, Jake of Inman, Abe of Greensburg, Henry of Alberta, Canada, and Ben and Frank of Winkler, Man; and one sister, Tena, Mrs. George Rempel of Winkler, Man.

Preceding him in death were three grandsons, his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Marie Janzen, Mrs. Agnes Janzen and Annie Peters of Winkler, Man. — The Bereaved Family.
