JACOB PETERS
Jacob Peters of Winnipeg passed away Aug.12. He was born Sept. 25, 1907 to Jacob and Elizabeth Peters in Friedensruh, southern Russia. He accepted Christ during evangelistic services led by Rev. Hofer of MCC. They left Russia Sept. 25, 1925. They were given accommodation and employment by families near Steinbach, Man. His father's sudden death in 1931 reminded him of the importance of a personal relationship with God. He was baptized and joined Niverville (Man.) MB Church. He married Elizabeth Neufeld May 15, 1932. He began to work for his brother-in-law Herman Neufeld as a linotype operator at the Mennonitische Rundschau (now Christian Press), retiring in 1973. In 1933 they moved to North Kildonan, Man., joining North Kildonan MB Church. He loved his church and for many years served as church treasurer and deacon. After retirement, he spent many happy hours in his workshop, making things for others and toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He derived much joy from carving floral arrangements, birds and animals in wood and soapstone. His faith in a loving, caring, forgiving God found expression in carvings of the Good Shepherd, the woman at the well and Jesus writing in the sand. He lovingly cared for his wife after her first heart attack. She died July 6, 1984. His health deteriorated after a stroke Apr. 22 and he prayed to God for help in his distress. He is mourned by his children Hildegard Isaak, Helmut, Helga Neudorf and Hedy Pletz; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister. The funeral was Aug. 16 in North Kildonan MB Church, Winnipeg, with John Epp, William Neufeld and Allan Labun ministering.
