ISAAC F. PETERS

Isaac F. Peters was born in southern Russia on December 28, 1894. With his parents, Johann and Anna (nee Fast) Peters, he emigrated to Canada in 1903. They settled on a homestead near Langham, Saskatchewan, where Isaac received his elementary education at the Neuhoffnung School. He accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour at an early age, was baptized and received into the Neuhoffnung Mennonite Brethren Church in 1910. On June 21, 1917 he married Agatha Funk. The Peters were blessed with one son and three daughters.

He had a strong natural bent toward mechanical things and used his talents to earn his living as an automotive mechanic both in Saskatchewan and in Vancouver, the family's home after 1935. After working in the shipyards and paper mills in B.C., he started his own home renovation business. While in Saskatchewan Mr. Peters was a member of the Neuhoffnung, Bruderfeld, and Waldheim Mennonite Brethren Churches. Later in Vancouver he was a member of the Vancouver (43rd Ave.) and Fraserview Churches. Although quiet and reserved by nature, he nevertheless was keenly interested in the affairs of the church. He was happy in his Christian life and had a deep concern for others who had not accepted Jesus as their Saviour.

In the last few years his healthy began to fail. On June 8, three weeks after he had moved with his wife to the Menno Home in Clearbrook for more intensive care, he died peacefully in his sleep. This was just 11 days short of their planned diamond wedding anniversary. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Agatha; one son, Henry Peters; three daughters, Mrs. A. Kornelson, Mrs. H. Derksen, and Mrs. W. Boldt; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, one sister; and many relatives and friends.
