HENRY F. PETERS

Henry F. Peters was born to Johann and Anna Peters in South Russia on May 25, 1893. In 1903 the family emigrated to Canada, settling on a farm in Langham Susko He received Christ as his Saviour soon after his brother David was killed by lightning, and was baptized in 1916 by Rev. Jacob Lepp. He joined the Neuhoffnung Mennonite Brethren Church.

He married Anna Neufeld on April 14, 1918; the Lord blessed them with two daughters and two sons, one of whom died in infancy. They farmed just south of Dalmeny, Sask., from 1918 to 1972. Many hardships were endured during the pioneer and depression years, and he did not always enjoy good health. In spite of adversities, he was able to take much grace from the Lord.

Interested in community affairs, he served as secretary treasurer for the Wurzburg School District for 17 years, and for the Virtue Telephone Company for 29 years. He served as a deacon in the Neuhoffnung Church until it was dissolved, and later in the Dalmeny, Sask., church, where he was ordained to the diaconate in 1954. The Peters retired in Dalmeny in 1972. Mr. Lepp was hospitalized in February and complications led to his passing on February 19.

A funeral service was held February 22 in the Dalmeny Mennonite Brethren Church, with Pastor Peter Boschmann and Rev. Henry Baerg officiating.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Anna; two daughters, Martha (Mrs. Henry) Quiring of Dalmeny and Hilda (Mrs. Peter) Thiessen of Saskatoon; one son, Reuben and his wife Mary of Saskatchewan; four grandchildren; seven brothers; three sisters; and many relatives and friends.
