CHILD IN CARRIAGE CRUSHED WHEN TRUCK RUNS INTO STORE FRONT

Steinbach, Manitoba. — An unusual accident on Steinbach's Main Street July 15 claimed the life of a five-month-old baby thought to be safely resting in its carriage in front of a grocery store.

The child's mother, Mrs. Gladstone Penner, was in the store shopping when the building was shaken by a heavy thud. Running to the door, she found that a panel truck, its brakes failing to hold, had jumped the curb and rushed the carriage against the store front. The badly injured child was rushed to a doctor and passed away three hours later.

Funeral services were held at the Emmanual [sic Emmanuel] Mission church of Steinbach.
