Regional Director of NAE Dies at Whittier, Calif.

Hillsboro, Kan. — Word was received here that Dr. Walter l. Penner, 48, director of the Southwest Region of the National Association of Evangelicals, died unexpectedly Sept. 23 at Whittier, Calif.

A former Mennonite Brethren pastor and teacher, Dr. Penner founded the Evangelical Welfare Agency to find Christian homes for homeless children. Recently he had been appointed to the executive committee of the Billy Graham Los Angeles Crusade in 1963.

Dr. Penner was the son of Mrs. A. F. Penner of Hillsboro. His wife is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Jost, also of Hillsboro.
