Three Children Die in Manitoba Car -Train Crash

Steinbach, Manitoba. — A largely attended funeral took place at the Greenland church of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 18 as services were held for three young sons of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron G. Penner, killed in a railroad crossing accident near Winnipeg on Sunday morning.

The parents were critically injured in the crash, but at last report were showing improvement. Both sustained skull fractures and fractures of both legs, and Mr. Penner also had a broken arm and brain concussion.

Killed were Keith Penner, 8, Byron, 5, and Johnny, 3. Three other children in the family — Ronnie, 7, Gail, 2, and Dean, nine months — had been left a home with relatives.

The Penners were en route to Grandview, Man. for a week end visit when their compact auto struck the second car of a CPR passenger train. The highway was icy from a rain the night before, which may have contributed to the accident.
