MRS. GERTRUDE PENNER

Gertrude Penner (nee Dueck) was born September 19, 1906 in southern Russia, where she spent her childhood. At the age of thirteen she accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour; in 1924 she was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church. With her parents, the Peter A. Duecks, she emigrated to Manitoba in 1926. On June 16, 1929 she married David Penner. They established a home on a farm near Springstein, Man. and the Lord blessed them with six children.

In 1946 the Penners moved to Sardis, B.C. and joined the Greendale Mennonite Brethren Church. She showed great interest in church life and was actively involved in the Ladies Fellowship, preparing blankets for the needy. She was very concerned for her family and interceded daily for them and for others on her prayer list.

During the last ten years of her life Mrs. Penner was under a doctor's care. She passed away on September 27, 1975 in the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. The funeral was held on October 1 in the Greendale MB Church with Henry Klassen and pastor Harry Heidebrecht officiating.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Victor and Wally, three daughters, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Willms, Mrs. William (Helen) Kuehn, and Mrs. Rudi (Eleanore) Willms, all of B.C., 14 grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters and their families.
