KATHARINA DALKE PENNER, daughter of Cornelius and Anna Duerksen Dalke, was born August 11, 1864, in Steinfeld, South Russia, and died at Newton, Kansas, January 16, 1944. When ten years old she came to America with her parents. At eighteen she was baptized by Elder Jacob Buller of the Alexanderwohl Church. She was united in marriage to H. D. Penner in 1884. To this union were born fourteen children, eleven of whom are living. One son Ernest passed away at the age of forty-two. "Being the mother of many children, the wife of a teacher and minister of the gospel, her duties were many, but she performed them with exactness, faithfulness, and unselfishness." Ten years ago she experienced the loss of her devoted husband. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. E. R. Riesen, Tucson, Ariz.; Sister Anna Gertrude Penner, Newton, Kan.; D. D. Penner, Trenton, Neb.; Mrs. J. J. R. Claassen, Beatrice, Neb.; Mrs. H. J. Nickel, Wichita, Kan.; A. H. Penner, Hillsboro, Kan.: Mrs. Walter E. Niles, Sedgwick, Kan.; Mrs. J. K. Dirks, Wichita, Kan.; W. H. Penner, Arkansas City, Kan.; Mrs. E. W. Haury, Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. A. L. Miller, Partridge, Kan. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Helena Balzer, Dallas, Ore., and one brother, F. C. Dalke, Fairview, Okla.
