text of obituary:

Catherine Penner was born June 6, 1875, in the Mennonite settlement near the city of Saratov in Russia. Her parents were Rev. Johannes K. and Helene Penner, nee Jantzen. In 1884 the family, together with other relatives, came to Beatrice, Nebraska, to settle in this community and united with the Mennonite church. She received her education in the Mennonite parochial school, of which her father was teacher. On June 6, 1892, she was baptized upon confession of faith and became a member of the Mennonite church. She made her home with her brother, H. K. Penner. For a number of years she was active in Sunday School work and also was a member of the Ladies’ Missionary Society. Almost six weeks she spent in the hospital, where under the tender care of the sisters and nurses she seemed to rally for a time, however the Lord’s will was otherwise. Her life was slowly ebbing away. On January 12, she quietly fell asleep, to be with her Lord. She attained an age of 59 years, 7 months, and 6 days. She leaves to mourn her departure, her aged mother, five sisters, four brothers, five brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and many relatives and friends.
