ADOLF E. PENNER
Adolf E. Penner, son of John W. and Elizabeth Ewert Penner, was born on May 21, 1887, near Hillsboro, Marion County, Kansas. He died Sept. 21, 1962 in the Salem Hospital at Hillsboro, the same day his father died 21 years earlier.
Father attended school in District No. 70 in the Brudertal community, and also the Penner Preparatory School in Hillsboro. In his youth he felt the call of Christ and accepted Him as Savior and Lord. He was baptized upon his confession of faith and received as a member of the Brudertal Mennonite Church by Elder William J. Ewert on June 4, 1906. He remained a faithful member there until his death.
On Nov. 1, 1911, he was united in marriage to Maria Funk. Together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for 48 years. This union was blessed with two children. The home was also opened to a nephew, Jacob E. Penner, now of Carbon Cliff, Ill., who came to share this home in his childhood.
In community life he worked in many capacities. In the church, he served as Sunday school superintendent and secretary. He also served as song leader for congregational worship for 25 years. He was always concerned about the growth of the church, and as long as health permitted he gave willingly of his time for various church building projects.
Since mother's death his health had been failing. A few months ago he was advised that his condition was beyond medical help. He was looking forward to going Home.
Father was preceded in death by our mother, his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. He leaves to mourn a daughter Helen, and her husband Jakie Pankratz of Hydro, Okla.; a son Orlando and his wife Ruth Hiebert Penner, Hillsboro; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and aged mother-in-law, Mrs. P. W. Funk; nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends. — The Children.
