FRANZ PAULS

Franz Pauls, our beloved father, was born to Henry and Elizabeth Dyck Pauls on July 9, 1862, in the village of Fuerstenwerder in South Russia. Here he spent his childhood days and also received his elementary education in a village School. At the age of 16, in 1878, he emigrated with his parents to this country and settled on a farm in McPherson county, southwest of Inman, Kansas.

In 1886 he was married to Mrs. Maria Klassen, nee Ediger. To this union were born four children, three sons and one daughter. Of these Henry died in infancy and Elizabeth, Mrs. J. C. Thiessen, preseded [sic] the parents in death. Father and mother shared joys and sorrows for 59 years, until 1946 when mother was taken from our family circle and from father's preceded the parents in death. ter by a former marriage into the home to whom father extended his tender paternal care. [sic multiple typographical errors]

Our father found his Saviour and forgiveness of sin in the blood of Jesus Christ at the age of 23. Later he and mother affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren church at Buhler, Kansas, where they were faithful members until their departure.

On May 27 of this year father fell and broke his hip and was taken to the Bethel hospital for surgery. The operation was successful but later complications set in and resulted in his departure June 28 at 1:07 p.m., having reached the age of 91 years, 11 months and 19 days. He suffered very much at the hospital and spent much time in prayer and supplication that he might be permitted to leave his earthly abode and be taken up to his eternal home in heaven to be with his Lord and Master.

Father enjoyed exceptionally good health all through his long life and he had never been hospitalized before. During all these years he has been a good father to us and taught us by word and precept to live a useful Christian life. But now we thank our Heavenly Father that he has taken him to his eternal rest at the feet of Jesus where he so yearned to be.

Surviving as those who are grateful for the eternal rest he now enjoys are: two sons, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Pauls and family, McPherson; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank F. Pauls, Buhler, Kansas; one daughter, Mary, Mrs. Henry G. Pauls and family of Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; one sister, Mrs. Justina Esau of Buhler, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends. — The Family.
