• Edward Pauls,71, retired farmer of Buhler, died at his home there on Jan. 1. He was a member of the Hoffnungsau church, where the funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Dick Rempel in charge. Survivors include the widow, Louise, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Froese of Buhler; sons Harold of Inman, Irvin of Johnson, Eldon of Dodge City and Herb of Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; six brothers and one sister.

Edward Pauls was born on Jan. 22, 1897 near Inman, Kan., the son of John J. and Anna Voth Pauls. He was called to his heavenly home on Jan. 1, 1969 as a result of a heart attack. he attained the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 10 days.

He was baptized by Rev. Peter Richert on May 28, 1917 and became a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death.

On Nov. 2, 1922 father was married to Louise Ediger at the Hoffnungsau Church. This marriage was blessed with one daughter and four sons. They enjoyed 46 years of happy married life.

They farmed for 29 years in the Moundridge community. In 1951 they moved to a farm near Buhler where he farmed until their retirement in September 1968. During that month they moved to Buhler where they lived until his departure.

The children helped mother and father celebrate their 45th anniversary in November 1967 with a special day of thanksgiving. It was the joy of our parents to have all their children and grandchildren present at this occasion. He was a patient, kind and loving husband and father. His heart was always lightened by the presence of his grandchildren.

Father is survived by our mother, Louise Pauls; one daughter, Adeline and husband Harold Froese of Buhler; four sons, Harold and wife Virginia of Inman, Irvin and wife Rosella of Johnson, Eldon and wife Allene of Dodge City, Herb and wife Joleen of Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Ediger, McPherson; six brothers, John of McPherson, Curt of Inman, Alvin of Conway, Abe of McPherson, Walter of Topeka, Leonard of Inman; and a host of friends.
