David D. Pauls
David D. Pauls passed away Jan. 9. He was born Nov. 17. 1903 to David F. and Sara Pauls in Alexandertal, Molotschna, southern Russia. He grew up in a relatively well-to-do home. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined the MB church July 13, 1922. Music was loved in his family . He conducted a teen choir in his home village. He was engaged to Helen Toews the day before the Toews left for Canada. They were detained several years in Holland and Great Britain, so he reached Canada first. He farmed with his brother Martin in Arnaud, Man. He married Helen Aug. 25, ]929. They moved to Coaldale, Alta., taking over the Johann A. Toews farm. He was conductor of Coaldale MB Church choir. He was a strong. supporter of education and missions. He is remembered as a forthright, loving father whose Christianity was practical. God was a priority, and he was willing to risk and sacrifice for his cause. Their home was a warm, loving centre for the family. In 1963 they semi-retired to Winnipeg. In 1972 they retired to Clearbrook, where he sang in the male choir and they were full participants in church activities. He is mourned by his wife; children Helen of Abbotsford, B.C., John of Calgary, Elfrieda of Calgary, Victor of Vancouver, Margaret of Clearbrook and Ernie of Morden, Man.; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral was Jan. 13, with John E. Klassen, Harry Heidebrecht and J.B. Toews ministering.
