CORNELIUS PAULS

Cornelius Pauls was born in Puchtien Russia, on January 1, 1891 to Henry Pauls and Justina (nee Hiebert), the sixth child in the family. His mother passed away when he was just over one year old. Two brothers had passed away previously.

Since his parents had no land of their own, they availed themselves of the opportunity of settling in the Terek settlement in 1901. After much hardship in those early years everything was eventually lost in February 1918. From there Cornelius moved to Kalentarewka where he met his wife, Elizabeth. He learned to know and love her and they were married September 30, 1918.

On May 10, 1921, he was born again. In 1924 he and his family left Russia, landing in Quebec, Canada. They settled in southern Manitoba. The first 20 years were difficult ones. In 1944 they moved to B.C. Ten years later, in 1954, they retired, living in their home in Clearbrook until their final move into the Tabor Home in 1969.

God gave them 11 children (eight sons and three daughters) of whom three sons and three daughters died in infancy. On May 23 1971 the Lord called his beloved wife Elizabeth, home to himself, after 52 years of married life.

Cornelius passed away on November 8, at the age of nearly 83 years. He is survived by five married sons: Cornelius and Anne of Thornhill, Ont.; John and Margaret of Richmond, B.C.; David and Neta of Mt Lehman, B.C.; Jake and Martha of Seattle Wash.; Henry and Betty of Willowdale, Ont; and by 15 grandchildren.
