— Mrs. P. P. Adrian of Newton received word of the death of her brother-in-law, Rev. John H. Pankratz at San Diego, Calif. on July 19. Rev. Pankratz and wife were pioneer M. B. missionaries in India, where they served for over 30 years. Mrs. Pankratz died on the mission Held 11 years ago. Funeral services for Rev. Pankratz were held at San Diego.

Pioneer Missionary of M. B. Church Died

SERVICES HELD AT SAN DIEGO, CALIF. FOR REV. J. H. PANKRATZ

Funeral services for Rev. John H. Pankratz, pioneer Mennonite Brethren missionary to India, took place at San Diego, Calif. last week, according to word received by relatives in Newton. He passed away in San Diego at the home of a daughter, Linda, at the age of 85.

Rev. and Mrs. Pankratz pioneered on the India field in 1902 and served there a total of years. They helped established the first M. B. station among the Telegus in 1903, and Rev. Pankratz ordained the first three native ministers. His wife passed away in January 1941, during their last term in India.

Rev. Pankratz' service abroad also included visits to China, Poland, the Holy Land and Egypt in the interest of missions.

Born in Russia in 1867, he came to this country at an early age and attended the Teachers Normal at Emporia, Kans., Baptist academy and the Baptist Theological seminary at Rochester, N. Y.

He is survived by two daughters and three sons.
