ABRAHAM JOHANN PAETKAU

Abraham Johann Paetkau, son of Johann and Anna Paetkau (nee Peters), was born October 10, 1894 in Petersdorf, South Russia. He enjoyed a happy childhood and youth in the circle of his family and friends. After receiving his elementary education, he at· tended the secondary school at Nikolaipol.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour, and on August 18, 1920 was baptized and received into the Einlage Mennonite Brethren Church.

During the first World War he served in the medical service, seeking to help the wounded and suffering. In 1922 he was joined in marriage to Agatha Klassen at Kronstal. They left Russia in 1923 and resided in Waldheim, Sask. for five years before settling at Glenbush, Sask. Here he experienced pioneering hardships but also many blessings.

The family moved to Elm Creek, Man., farming until 1959 when they retired to fellowship in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church. He loved his Lord whom he sought to serve in word and deed. His persona] life was an example and inspiration to his family.

He passed away March 5 at the age of 79 years. The funeral service was conducted in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, Winnipeg on March 8.

He was predeceased by a daughter in infancy, four sisters and two brothers. He was survived by his loving wife, Agatha; three daughters: Agatha, Elsie and husband Frank Froese, and Amanda, all of Winnipeg; three sons: Albert and wife Margaret of Elm Creek, Mall., Abe and wife Martha, and Harold of Winnipeg; seven grandchildren; four sisters and one brother.
