• John L. Oakes, who since 1960 had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Edmund (Christine) Miller and family in North Newton, died Tuesday at Bethel Hospital. He was 86. The funeral will be conducted Thursday forenoon at the Bethel College Church by Rev. Russell Mast, and burial will be at Rochester, N.Y. For many years Mr. Oakes was active in banking and management in and around Rochester, N. Y., and in later years served as financial manager of Whitworth College, Spokane, Wash. Surviving in addition to the daughter are one brother, William, of Hamilton, N.Y., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr.Oakes was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Pittsford, N. Y.
