As a young man he was baptized and became a member of the Amish church. Later he transferred his membership to the Red Top Mennonite church at Bloomfield, Montana.

He was united in marriage to Lydia Yoder at Fairview, Michigan, on April 2, 1908, who survives him. Also surviving are three sons, David at home, Rufus and Rudolph of Bloomfield; four daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Monroe Chupp), Anne (Mrs. Clifford Kauffman) of Bloomfield, Kathryn (Mrs. Lloyd Hostetler) of Louisville, Ohio, and Ruth at home; one foster daughter, Rosella White; 16 grandchildren; a brother, John, and two sisters, Mrs. Ted Weare, and Mrs. Katie Yoder, all of Newton Co., Indiana; and many other relatives. He and his family moved to Montana in 1914, where he engaged in farming. on February 9, 1947, he had a stroke and was taken to a hospital, where he remained for a week and a half. he returned to his home and seemed to be steadily improving until May 4, when he had a heart attack and was taken back to the hospital. He then suffered another stroke which left him unable to talk.

He endured the suffering very patiently. By his request he was annointed [sic] with oil, and he was fully resigned to the Lord's will regarding his recover. He often expressed the desire to go to his heavenly Home.

On May 11 he peacefully went to be with his Lord. It was hard to give him up, although he left the assurance of going to a better world. He will be greatly missed as a dear husband and father.

Funeral services were held on May 15 at the Red Top Mennonite church near Bloomfield. Services were in charge of Rev. L. A. Kauffman, with Rev. Dick and Rev. Bried assisting. — The Family.
