— Fred Nightingale, who lived in Halstead after retiring from the farm some years ago, died Tuesday afternoon in the Halstead Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in the Halstead First Mennonite Church, with Rev. Roland Goering, pastor of the church, in charge. Surviving Mr. Nightingale are four brothers, Dan of Goltry, Okla., Edward and John of Ft. Cobb, Okla., and Tobe of Halstead, and five sisters, Mrs. Dena Unruh and Mrs. Mary Unruh of Carnegie, Okla., Mrs. Minnie Koehn of Meno, Okla., Mrs. Lena Unruh of Chickasha, Okla., and Mrs. Carrie Ratzlaff, living in Colorado. His wife preceded him in death some years ago.

FRED A. NIGHTINGALE

Fre d Adam Nightingale, son of Adam and Lena (Schultz) Nightingale, was born on May 22, 1889, in McPherson county, Kan. He departed this life in the Halstead Hospital on July 21, 1959, having been in ill health for the past three years. He attained the age of 70 years, one month and 22 days. In his boyhood days he moved to the Chickasha Nation near Paulsvally [sic Pauls Valley], Okla., with his parents. From there they moved to south of Fort Cobb, Okla. At the age of 20 he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Schultz, his grandparents, and helped them with the farming.

He was united in marriage to Millie Pankratz on March 11, 1916, at Enid, Okla. and for a number of years farmed in the vicinity of Meno, Okla. Later, retiring from the farm, he with his wife moved to Hutchinson, Kan., where they resided for 23 years. After this they moved to Halstead, Kan. where his wife preceded him in death on March 7, 1950.

In 1917, while living at Meno, Okla., he was baptized by the Rev. J. B. Epp and united with the New Hopedale Mennonite Church of Meno. On June 17, 1951, then living in Halstead, he transferred his membership to the First Mennonite Church of Halstead. Of this church he remained a member until the time of his death. Fred was a loving and faithful husband and neighbor.

He leaves to mourn his departure; Four brothers, Tobe Nightingale, Halstead, Dan Nightingale, Goltry, Okla., Edward Nightingale and John Nightingale both of Fort Cobb, Okla., five sisters, Mrs. Lena Unruh, Chichasha [sic Chickasha], Okla., Mrs. Carrie Ratzlaff, Crowley, Colo., Mrs. John Unruh, Fort Cobb, Okla., Mrs. Dave Koehn, Meno, Okla., Mrs. DeDan Unruh, Carnegie, Okla., and a large number of relatives and friends.
