William E. Nickel, son of Gerhard and Anna Ewert Nickel, wan born on Dec. 31, 1891 near Hillsboro, Kan. He grew up on his parents’ farm. Upon his confession of faith in his Saviour he was baptized on June 5, 1911 by elder William Ewert at the Brudertal Church.

He married Justina Voth on Dec. 29, 1916 at the parental Voth home near Delft, Minn. They moved to Montana in February of 1917 where he had homesteaded a farm 15 miles north of Wolf Point in May of 1916. Here all of the children were born, and the parents were charter members of the Bethel Church.

After leaving the farm in 1939 he took up janitor work in the schools and at the hospital, as well as a few years at the church. He loved to read and study God’s Word blessed in the fellowship of God’s people in the Gospel Fellowship Church where he was a charter member. One of his favorite Bible verses was Matthew 11:28.

He passed away on Aug. 27, after almost a week’s illness at the hospital. He reached the age of 73 years, seven months and 27 days. Preceding him in death were his son Carl, his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.

He leaves to mourn his wife Justina: four daughters, one son, four sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. [‘’sic’’] and Mrs. Clarence Olfert of Wolf Point, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Penner of San Diego, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth J. Maus of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Rahn of Frazer, Mont., Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Nickel of Hurley, S. D.; 18 grandchildren; one grandson-in-law; and one great-granddaughter. He also leaves two sisters and their families, Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Funk and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pauls; two brothers-in-law, H. Bartel, and Ernest Thimm of Kansas; and many relatives and friends.

William E. Nickel
