MRS. TINA NICKEL

(Mrs.) Tina Nickel of St. Catharines, Ont., was born to John and Elizabeth Schroor on August 15, 1894 in Henderson, Nebraska. The family moved to Langham, Sask., in 1908. Tina accepted Christ at the age of 13 years and was baptized two years later in the Dalmeny (Sask.) Mennonite Brethren Church. She married Herman Nickel on April 12,1917. They were blessed with 15 children, seven boys and eight girls; five of the children died in infancy.

While in Saskatchewan the family lived at Langham, Hepburn, Dalmeny, and Mennon, before moving to Michigan and then to Ontario. Ontario homes included Jordan Station, Virgil and St. Catharines. Many friends were made over the years. They joined the Grantham Mennonite Brethren Church in St. Catharines in 1973.

The Nickels celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1967. Her husband passed away four months later. Left to face life alone, she found God to be a constant help in difficult times, finding strength in quietness and confidence. She only faced illness in her later years, and was called home on May 17, shortly after the family had celebrated Mother's Day with her. Left to mourn are her daughters, Ella and Carolyn, Betty (Mrs. Emil) LaBlond, and Annie (Mrs. Jacob) Dueck; six sons and their wives, John and Elsie, Henry and Ruebena, Clarence and Kaye, Jake and Leni, Frank and Gail, and Abe and Fran; three sisters, 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grand children; and many relatives and friends.
