text of obituary:
MRS. SUSANNA NICKEL
(Mrs.) Susanna Nickel was born to Jacob and Susanna (nee Braun) Remple on August 23, 1883, in Neuendorf, south Russia. At the age of 12 she accepted Christ's forgiveness and two years later was baptized and received as a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. After her mother died and her father remarried, the family moved to Rosthern, Saskatchewan in 1903. Later that year she married Jacob P. Nickel and they settled on a homestead in Langham, Saskatchewan. In 1910 they moved to Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, where they enjoyed rich blessings for 37 years; four daughters and three sons were born to them. One son predeceased her in childhood.
In 1947 the Nickels retired and moved to Clearbrook, B.C. They were granted the grace of God to observe their diamond wedding anniversary in 1963. Soon after, her husband was taken by the Lord to himself. Mrs. Nickel became ill in August, 1976. She remained in her home and received the loving care of her sisters until the Lord relieved her of all her sufferings on February 16. From middle age on she was afflicted with severe deafness which was an oppressive burden for her, particularly because she could not hear or participate at church services. She loved and memorized the Word of God, and recited long passages during her illness. She continually prayed audibly to the Lord, making intercession for her family.
She leaves to mourn four daughters, Mary and Helen of Clearbrook; Susie (Mrs. Jacob) Martens of Swift Current, Sask., and Louise (Mrs. Allen) Schmidt of Hope, B.C. two sons and their wives, Jack and Rose and John and Isobel, in B.C.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two sisters, (Mrs.) Sara Enns and (Mrs.) Lena Hamm; two brothers, George Rempel and Peter Bergman; and many other friends.
