text of obituary:
PETER ALBERT NICKEL
Peter Albert Nickel, son of Anna and Peter P. Nickel, was born on September 17, 1900 in Petrowka, Russia, three years before the family immigrated to Canada. His childhood was filled with learning and everincreasing responsibility for the Saskatchewan homestead. On July 18, 1919 he met his Lord in a personal soul-saving encounter followed by baptism and acceptance into membership of the Mennonite Brethren Church at Main Centre, Sask., July 21 of that same year.
At the age of 21 God laid his hand on him for the molding of lives in the public schools. High school and normal school studies were completed, along with much farm work and a courtship which culminated in his marriage on January I, 1924 to Tina Dirksen . They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary this year.
He worked energetically at his God-given career, ministering with much success and blessing for the next 18 years. Through difficulties of the depression and health problems, faith held strong.
During these years, there were born to them: Helmut, who lived only six days; Norman, residing with his parents in Abbotsford; Linda, missionary to Pakistan; Waldo , with wife Martha, of Beamsville, Ont.: Mrs . Jack (Betty) Chupa, Ashcroft, B.C.; Mrs. Rene (Ruby) Beaudry, Surrey, B.C.: and Alma, with husband John Thiessen, missionaries in Mexico . He cherished his 14 grandchildren and prayed much for them.
He passed into the Lord's presence April 6.
