MRS. KATHRINA NICKEL

On Saturday morning, Jan. 12, there passed away Mrs. Kathrina Nickel at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Dick at Neidpath, Saskatchewan, following a short illness. Mrs. Nickel contracted a cold in December but was able to be up practically every day until pneumonia developed on January 9. She was very ill for three days.

She was conscious to the last and died in her sleep. She reached the advanced age of 90 years, one month and 21 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Boese, having been born in Russia November 22, 1855.

The family immigrated to the United States in 1894 and settled at Avon, So. Dak. On March 30, 1880, she was united in holy wedlock with George Nickel and they shard joys and sorrows for 38 years. The family lived at Marion, So. Dak., until 1910, when they came to Saskatchewan and settled east of Neidpath, where they lived till 1918.

On July 27 of that year, Mr. nickel was in an accident when his team ran away while he was in Morse and he died the following day. From that time Mrs. Nickel resided with her daughter and son-lin-law [sic], Mr. and Mrs. John Dick.

She leaves to mourn her death and loving care three sons, two daughters, four daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many friends. One son preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1939.

During her life's journey she was much interested in reading the Scriptures and did much praying and hymn singing. She was a true and faithful member of the Mennonite church from her girlhood days to the end.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick, with a large number of neighbors and friends present. Rev. I. Wiens, Herbert, was in charge. Pall bearers were Irvin, Lloyd and Clarence Nickel, Albert Senft, Melvin Dick and E. Butler. Interment was in the Bethesda cemetery.

Two sons, Henry and Abr. Nickel, came from Marion, So. Dak., for the funeral, while Miss Lillie Dick came from Regina. Mrs. George Buller and brother Pete of Michigan were unable to be present.
