NATIVE OF RUSSIA DIES AT AGE 82

Reedley, Calif. — Jacob P. Neufeld, 82, who was among the Mennonite emigrants from Russia, died in a Reedley rest home Jan. 16 after a long illness. He had lived here for 12 years.

Mr. Neufeld's survivors include one son, two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Reedley M. B. Church, where the funeral services were conducted Jan.20.

JACOB P. NEUFELD

Jacob P. Neufeld, son of Peter and Katharina Neufeld, was born in Sergijewka, South Russia, on July 12, 1879. He left Russia with his parents to come to the United States. They arrived at Hillsboro, Kan. on March 10, 1886. Here he attended the public school and received his elementary education. In September, 1891 he moved with his parents to Inman, Kans. , and three years later the family moved to Washita County, Okla., where they settled on a farm.

As a young man he recognized his lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. On July 21, 1895, he was baptized by his own father who at that time was the leader of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church.

On March 10, 1904, he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Nickel, at Corn, Okla. this union was blessed with five children. One daughter, Augusta, passed away at the age of six; one son, Johnie, passed away at the age of one year.

For a short time the family made their home in Cordell, Okla., and in 1912 moved to Vinita, Okla. In 1919 we moved to Springfield, Mo. three years later we arrived at Fairmead, Calif. After spending nine years at Shafter and a short time at San Jose, our parents came to Reedley, Calif., where mother passed away in 1954.

For a number of years our father had charge of a Safeway Store and operated other types of business. he was faithful to the Lord and to the church.

The last years of his life he spent in the Reedley Home for the Aged. After being bedfast for 11 months, he went home to Glory on Jan. 16, 1962, about 1:30 p.m. He reached the age of 82 years, six months, and four days.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are first of all his children: Two daughters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Walter Karber, Dinuba, Calif. and Mathilda, Mrs. Reuben Becker, Shafter, Calif.; and one son, Jack Neufeld, Reedley, Calif.; two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marie, Mrs. Abe Willems, residing in the Home for the Aged, Corn, Okla,; and Susie, Mrs. H. P. Kliewer, residing in the Home for the Aged, Shafter, Calif., and many other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held Jan. 29 in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church, with the pastor, Dan Friesen, officiating. — The Family.
