JACOB B. NEUFELD

Jacob B. Neufeld, son of Abraham and Helena Toews Neufeld, was born on Jan. 10, 1903, at Inman, Kan. He grew up on a farm southwest of Inman, and lived in the Inman community all of his life. He attended West Eagle grade school and Zoar Academy. Later in pursuit of his interest in mechanics, he attended the Hutchinson Auto and Tractor School.

On May 24, 1920, at the age of 16, he was baptized and received into the Bethel Mennonite Church. Here he was an active and faithful member until his death.

On Sept. 1, 1926, he was married to Katherine Pauls. They spent the first few years on a farm southeast of Inman, and in 1928 they moved to another farm southeast of Inman. To this marriage were born five sons and three daughters, all of whom survive.

In 1928 Dad began a tractor and auto repair business in town. In 1945, he began a plumbing and electrical business. He was joined by two others with whom he shared this work in partnership for over 20 years. This well-lived life came to an end on April 26, 1967, after a two-day illness. He reached the age of 64 years, three months, and 16 days.

There are many significant concerns and memories, which remain to give ongoing testimony of this deep faith in Christ. He will long be remembered for his utmost patience with others and his deep love for his family. The new love in his spiritual life the past few years was his deep personal involvement for Christ in the lives of inmates of the Kansas State Reformatory in Hutchinson.

He leaves to mourn his passing his bereaved wife; children, Walter of Wayland, Iowa, Peter of Kingman, Kan.; Bertha, Mrs. Kenneth Miller of Woodburn, Ind., Elfrieda, Mrs. Marvin Funk of Newton, Albert of Hutchinson, Edward of St. Louis, Mo., Esther, Mrs. Tony Regier of Hutchinson, and Arnie of Rosthern, Sask., and their companions; 17 grandchildren, four brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were held April 29, in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel, pastor of the Bethel Mennonite Church. Interment was made in the South Inman Cemetery. Rev. Wedel was assisted by Chaplain Joe Bayles of the Kansas State Reformatory.
