Manitoba Trucker Dies In Crossing Crash

Steinbach, Man. — A speeding passenger train crashed into a loaded grain truck at a crossing south of St. Norbert Nov. 1, fatally injuring the truck driver, Herman A. Neufeld, 60, well-known Niverville trucker and businessman. He died in an ambulance en route to the hospital.

The train was travelling at an estimated 70 miles per hour. Part of the demolished truck was carried some distance down the track.

Friends said Mr. Neufeld was a cautious driver, and was proud of the fact that he had never had an accident.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Niverville Mennonite Brethren Church.

Mr. Neufeld came to Canada from Russia in 1930, and had been in the trucking business for 34 years. He leaves his second wife and several children and step-children.
