JACOB KORNELIUS NEUFELD

Jacob Kornelius Neufeld Jacob Kornelius Neufeld, late of 2341 Beaver Street, Clearbrook, B.C. passed away on April 25 in the Chilliwack General Hospital, in his 68th year.

Mr. Neufeld was born on May 22, 1902 in Sergejewka, South Russia, the only son of Kornelius and Anna (nee Janzen) Neufeld. In 1918 the family fled to Germany and took up residence near Stuttgart. There Jacob completed his schooling and there he also accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. In 1922 the family was able to emigrate to Canada, and Jacob went to live at Drake·, Sask. for a year. That same year he was baptized in Herbert, Sask. by his uncle, Rev. Heinrich Neufeld, and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church.

Mr. Neufeld moved to Winnipeg after a short stay in Saskatchewan and began to work in the newly formed Rundschau Publishing House, headed by Herman Neufeld. Except for a short period when he worked elsewhere, he spent the rest of his working life with the firm, over forty years, including the later years when it became The Christian Press. For a good part of that time he was the Printshop manager.

In 1926 Mr. Neufelld was married to Kaethe Penner, a union which was blessed with one child, a daughter, and which continued until her passing in 1947. In 1949 he found a second life's partner, Sara Baerg, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Neufeld had lived in Clearbrook for the past year and a half.

Besides his wife, Mr. Neufeld is survived by his daughter, Irene, wife of Dr. Jacob Dick of Saskatoon, and four grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Mrs. Maria Koslowsky of Clearbrook and Mrs. Jacob Peters of Winnipeg.

The funeral service was held April 29 from the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church, Rev. Herman Lenzmann officiating.
