Church, Civic Leader Dies at Reedley

Reedley, Calif.—Funeral services for Herman Neufeld, long active in church and community affairs here, were held Nov. 26 at the First Mennonite Church. He died Nov. 22 at the age of 76.

Mr. Neufeld was a leader in youth activities of the local Kiwanis Club, of which he was a member for over 30 years. He also promoted youth camping under the YMCA and was a past president of the Fresno County YMCA Board. He was the first chairman of the Reedley Community Chest, and served as a Reedley High School-College trustee for 22 years.

A native of Russia, Mr. Neufeld was active in assisting immigrants from that country after his arrival here. He was a deacon of the First Church for 24 years and a member of the men’s chorus. At one time he served as president of the California Christian Endeavor.

In 1967 he and his wife were honored as king and queen of the Reedley Fiesta.
