HENRY H. NEUFELD

Henry Neufeld was the oldest son of Henry and Lena (Penner) Neufeld. He was born July 28, 1895 in Ignatjewka, No.6. South Russia. Here he spent his youth, attending six years of public school and three years of high school. During the First World War he served for two years in the Red Cross corps.

On September 26. 1919 he married Anne Sawatsky. with whom he was privileged to spend almost 55 years. He accepted the Lord as his Saviour in 1922 and was baptized and received into the local Mennonite Brethren Church that same year.

Four children were born to them in Russia: Nettie (Mrs. John Guenther), Henry, Betty (Mrs. Frank Neufeld) and Annie Derksen). In December 1926 the family came to Canada and settled on a farm in Aberdeen, Sask. Fourteen difficult years were spent here. Another five children were born in Aberdeen: John, Corny, Gilbert, Lena (Mrs. Henry Loewen) and Peter.

In 1941 they moved to Virgil, Ont. Here their youngest son Herman was born. Mr. Neufeld worked very hard in his lifetime, both on the farm and in various industries. He taught the family many things, especially punctuality and a tremendous zest for life.

On May 10. at the age of 78, he passed away. Three brothers and three sisters have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his faithful wife, Annie: six sons; four daughters; six daughters·in·law: four sons· in·law; 42 grandchildren: nine great·grand· children and two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Susie) Gerbrandt of Vancouver and Lena Neufeld of Steinbach. Man. The funeral service was held May 13 in the Virgil Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. J. G. Baerg and Rev. George Wichert officiating.
