Death Claims Retired Pastor of Berne, Ind.

Berne, Ind. — Funeral services for Rev. Andrew J. Neuenschwander, 83, well-known retired pastor, were held at Yager Funeral Home here on Saturday afternoon, Apr. 22, with Rev. Gordon J. Neuenschwander, pastor of the Berne First Mennonite Church, officiating. He died of a cardiac failure at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, on Apr. 19.

A native of Berne, Rev. Neuenschwander was a resident of Swiss Village, local retirement center. Earlier, from 1965 to 1969, he served as minister to the elderly at the Berne First Church.

A graduate of Bluffton College and Witmarsum Theological Seminary at Bluffton, Ohio, he served pastorates at the Apostolic Mennonite Church, Trenton, Ohio; First Mennonite Church, Philadelphia, Pa.; First Mennonite Church, Upland, Calif.; and Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown, Pa.

He also served the General Conference Mennonite Church as field secretary of the former Young People’s committee and Publication Board, vice-president of the General Conference, and treasurer and secretary of the former Home Missions Board.

Among the survivors are two sons, Robert of West Covina, Calif. and Gordon E. of Wexford, Pa.; a daughter Ruth, Mrs. Alvin C. Ramseyer, Jr. of Smithville, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
