Nurse Died At Port En Route To India Relief Field

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MARION NAFZIGER JULY 14 AT WATERLOO, ONTARIO

Waterloo, Ont. — Memorial services were held at the Erb Street Mennonite church here on July 14 for Marion Nagziger, R.N., M.C.C. relief worker whose death at a Singapore hospital occurred July 8.

Miss Nafziger was en route to Calcutta, India, when it became necessary to remove her from the ship at Singapore for an appendectomy. Information received at MCC headquarters indicates that the operation was performed July 6, but that pneumonia complications following the operation resulted in her death.

Word of her death was received here by Rev. J. B. Martin, pastor of the Erb Street church, from the U. S. State Department, and transmitted to the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Enos Nafziger.

Miss Nafziger had sailed from San Francisco on April 27 in company with another relief appointee, Miss Mildred Shoemaker. The ship on which they traveled was delayed in the Philippines for several weeks and soon after leaving Manila, Miss Nafziger became ill.

The deceased attended Eastern Mennonite school at Harrisonburg, Va., and the K-W Hospital school of nursing here. She is survived by the parents, one brother and one sister.

The Erb Street church here has the following relief workers on the field or under appointment by the M.C.C.: Wilson Hunsberger, Belgium; Wesley Brubacher, Holland; Clara Snider, in charge of clothing center at Kitchener, Ont.; and Vera Good and Elaine Snider, who are scheduled to sail for India in the near future.
