C. H. MUSSELMAN’S ONE OF WORLD’S LARGEST PROCESSING INDUSTRIES
Orrtanna, Pa. — On Thursday, January 6, C. H. Musselman, president and general manager of the Musselman Canning Company of Biglerville, Pa., passed from this life at his home in Biglerville.
It is said that this fruit processing company is one of the largest in the world. It is composed of three separate plants. Besides the plant at Biglerville, there is one at Gardeners, Pa., another at Inwood, West Virginia. The three plants combined cover more than 50 acres (one estimate places the value of Musselman plants at $10,000,000. — Editor.)
Within the past two years Mr. Musselman has donated $50,000 for the construction and equipment of an industrial arts building for the Biglerville high school. He has also given large gifts to the Mennonite Church colleges at Goshen and Bluffton. Death cut short a planned program of other philanthropic interests.
Mr. Musselman was a member of the Fairfield Mennonite church.
He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs. Louella Musselman, Arnold and S. Lester Musselman; and four sisters, Mrs. B. E. Benner, Fairfield, Pa.; Mrs. Harry Stover, Orrtanna, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Thomas E. and Nancy Lou Arnold Biglerville.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Bender funeral home in Gettysburg, Pa. The services were conducted by Rev. Geo. S. Stoneback and Rev. Henry Sternat of the Biglerville Lutheran church. Interment was in the Biglerville cemetery.
Pres. L. L. Ramseyer of Bluffton College attended Mr. Musselman’s funeral and on the following day preached for the Fairfield Mennonite church at its regular Sunday morning services, after which he returned to Bluffton. — Henry Burkhard.
