Elmer F. Murray of Akron, New York, son of John Franklin and Barbara (Neff) Murray, was born on June 12, 1889 near Shipshewana, Ind., and died Feb. 11, 1971 in the Genesee Memorial Hospital, Batavia, New York, of complications resulting from a broken hip.

On Nov. 24, 1911 he married Lydia Ann Hooley, who survives. In the fall of 1920 they, with four other families, moved to Niagara County, New York and started what is now the Clarence Center Mennonite Church. The first church services were held in the Murray home three miles south of Gasport, New York.

Besides his wife, 14 children, 42 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren survive. The children are: Gerald (of Indian); Joella, Mrs. Crist Troyer (Ind.); Capt. Elmer Jr. (N.Y.); Gladys, Mrs. Elmer Peebles (N.Y.); Grace, Mrs. A. B. Nelson (Ind.); Ruth, Mrs. Daniel Mawhinney [''sic'' Mowhinney] (N.J.); Blanche, Mrs. Ralph Hartzler (N.Y.); Franklin (N.Y.); Joseph (N.Y.); Doris, Mrs. G. H. Klingelsmith (N.Y.); Orpha, Mrs. Ray Miller (N.Y.); John (Ind.); Paul (N.Y.); and Shirley, Mrs. Floyd Miller (N.Y.). Three older sisters also survive: Mrs. Anna Poyser, Mrs. Zoa Hagerty, and Mrs. Mary Ford, all of Michigan. Two brothers, James and Clarence, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 14 at the Clarence Center Mennonite Church, Akron, N.Y., with Pastor Howard S. Bauman and former pastor D. Edward Deiner officiating. Interment was made in Good Cemetery, Greiner Rd., Clarence, N.Y.
