— Motor car tragedies took an unusual toll of human life in this community during the latter part of the past week and early this week. The first victims were Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Murphy who died as the result of an accident near Goessel last Friday evening. Mr. Murphy was chemist for the Goerz Milling Co. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy were on the way to Abilene, and when they were about one-half mile north of the Alexanderwohl church, Mrs. Murphy, who was driving, lost control of the car as the front wheels in some manner struck the sand ridge at the side of the road. The car crashed over on its side, crushing Mrs. Murphy under the wreckage and injuring her to such an extent that life was extinct very soon afterward. Mr. Murphy died in the Goessel Hospital on the following morning. the two children in the rear seat escaped death, although one of them was seriously injured. — The second fatal accident happened on Kansas Avenue early Sunday morning when the car n which three young men were driving, overturned in the driver's attempt to avoid collision with a car coming from the opposite direction. Leo Alfred, 20 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Alfred, was the one who suffered fatal injury. He died before help could be summoned.
