Souderton, Pa., December, 1928 — The members of the congregation were greatly shocked, and saddened, when it was learned on November 28, that Mrs. John D. Moyer, wife of our senior deacon, had very suddenly passed away. Mrs. Moyer had been in her usual health, although she had been falling gradually for nearly two years. On the Sunday previous to her death she had attended both morning and evening services as was her custom. On the day of her death she had risen as usual, prepared the breakfast, made some preparation for the noonday lunch, done some ironing, and finally sat down by the front window of her home, as she often did, for a little rest. it was there that she was found by her daughter, Mae, who at first thought her mother asleep, but breathing rather hard. it was only a matter of minutes, however, until she was peacefully asleep in death.
Funeral services, largely attended, were held on Monday, December 8. Interment was made in the family lot in the Hillside cemetary [sic].
The following obituary of Mrs. Moyer was read at her funeral:
Mrs. John D. Moyer, nee Groff, was born in Harleysville, Penna., August 22, 1861, and entered into rest on November 28, 1928, ages 67 years, 3 months , and 6 days.
The maiden days of Mrs. Moyer were spent in her native town until her marriage to Mr. Moyer, in 1882. Their early married life was spent in Souderton, where she, with her husband became one of the Charter Members of Zion Mennonite congregation. After living in Soudertown [sic] for about 20 years the family moved to Quakertown, where they resided for some time, returning again to Souderton to make their future home.
Mr. and Mrs. Moyer were blessed with the birth of four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters. She is preceeded [sic] in death by her 2 sons; both of her parents, and one sister. She is survived by her husband, her 2 daughters, one daughter-in-law, two brothers, and three sisters. — Contributed.
