LUDWIG J. MILLER
Our beloved husband and father Ludwig J. Miller, son of the late John J. and Carolina (Waltner) Miller, was born in Turner county, S. D. May 28, 1890, and departed from this life to his heavenly reward at the Sioux Valley hospital, Sioux Falls, S. D. Sept. 28, 1954, age 64 years, four months.
He grew to manhood at his parental home, attended the rural school and later attended the Freeman College academy. While a young man he was instructed in catechism and was baptized in the Salem Mennonite church near Marion.
May 28, 1912 he was united in holy wedlock with Lena Kaufman. God blessed this union with three children.
In the spring of 1927 in a spiritual life meeting conducted by the late Rev. A. W. Barbesat of Filer, Idaho, he together with his wife rededicated his life to God and completely accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. He later transferred his church membership to the Beulah Mennonite Brethren in Christ church near Hurley. In this church he served as Sunday school superintendent, was a member of the board of trustees and a number of times served as a delegate to the annual conference.
He always had a great interest in the Kingdom of the Lord. He enjoyed to minister to the sick and shut-in folks with song and prayer. Many ministers, missionaries and friends can testify to the fine spirit of hospitality evident in his home. He had a concern about missionary work and helped to advance the Kingdom of God with his prayers and gifts.
Besides his interests in the Kingdom of God his entire life was lived for his family. Children and grandchildren alike were blessed by his devotion and love, and his kindly disposition and fine Christian example will remain a sacred memory.
Father had been in failing health the last few months. Upon advice of his doctor he was taken to the Sioux Valley hospital. It was discovered that he was suffering from uremic poisoning. At his request he was anointed and prayed for according to James 5:14, 15. A short time before he went to his eternal reward he enjoyed the sacrament of the Holy Communion, realizing that soon he would be at the marriage supper of the Lamb. The hymn “My Jesus I Love Thee" was a great consolation to him.
He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife with whom he shared joys and sorrows for 42 years and four months: a daughter Leoda, Mrs. Edward S. Tschetter of Adair, Iowa; a son Claude at home; a son-in-law Rev. Edward S. Tschetter; two grandchildren, Edward and Velmaline Tschetter; four brothers, six sisters. A daughter Deloris, a sister Lena, and his parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Oct. at the Salem Mennonite church Freeman, with Rev. J. Herbert Fretz in charge.
