Diphtheria Outbreak In Chaco Settlement
Filadelfia, Paraguay. — An outbreak of diphtheria in the Old Order Amish settlement near here claimed the life of eight-year-old Junior Miller, oldest son in the Lonnie C. Miller family.
The lad was sick at home for five days before being admitted to the hospital, where a tracheotomy was performed to aid breathing. After nine days he was released to his home, but took a turn for the worse and died in a short time.
Three other children in the settlement also had the disease, and all of the Amish children were given shots as a preventative measure.
