Young Woman Who Had Heart Surgery Dies.

Smoketown, Pa. — Eunice Metzler, 19-year-old daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Metzler of rural Manheim, died in the Harrisburg Hospital on Jan. 9 after a brief illness.

In 1967 Eunice underwent open heart surgery after it was discovered that she had had a heart defect since birth. To help pay for the expensive surgery, young people of the Hernley’s Mennonite Church, where her father is pastor, made and sold some 1,900 sandwiches and donated the proceeds to a special fund. Other members of the church also contributed to the fund.

Miss Metzler graduated from Lancaster Mennonite School in 1968, and was attending Messiah Bible College at Grantham when she became ill. Funeral services were held at Hernley’s Church.

Surviving in addition to the parents are three sisters, M[sic unreadable] Dorcas Martzell, missionary in British Honduras, Erma and Orpha at home; a brother Clair of Manheim; and grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Abram Risser and Mrs. Annie Metzler.
