SISTER ZIPORA MESCHBERGER

Sister Zipora was born Sept. 18, 1893 at El Reno, Okla. to Jacob and Dinah Meschberger, workers in the Indian Mission. She was baptized in 1910 and became a member of the Mennonite church in El Reno. She transferred her membership to the First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kan. in 1925.

Sister Zipora always had the desire to serve the Lord in a special way. She applied to the Bethel Deaconess Hospital and was accepted into the family in 1917.

She served in various capacities, as manager of the laundry for many years and also in the kitchen and dining room. Faithfulness characterized her everywhere.

In the early years after the Bethel Home was opened in 1926 she served in the nursing care there. She owned a Model T Ford at that time and her great delight was to take some of the guests to town or to the country.

Sister Zipora thoroughly enjoyed living in the Warkentin home. When one of the sisters became ill and needed a companion and nursing, she was the one to do it. When the Warkentin Home closed she moved to the Sisters Home.

She loved the outdoors and a walk through the gardens always was a delight. She loved to sing and always had a suitable song in English or German to fit the occasion.

She underwent several illnesses that required hospitalization. She never complained but bore her lot well. On Dec. 31, 1979 the Lord called her home.

Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Ada of the Bethel Home; and one brother, Silas of Sheldon, Mo.
